Hiking Lo Barnachea
Cerro del Medio
This is an easy hike that will take around two hours to go up and back. It’s located on the intersection of Camino Las Hualtatas con El Golf de Manquehue. This trek is a part of the pre-cordillera of Santiago, Chile with an altitude of 1011 meters. It’s really an easy hike that you can take your little kids on so go enjoy the outdoors together.
Manquehuito Hill
This is a easy to medium difficulty hike that will take around 2.5 hours to do round trip. It’s located at the end of Camino El Golf de Manquehue where you can park your car to begin the hike. I would recommend doing the hike during the week in the morning or later in the day as it can get hot in summertime. There will be a lot of cars during the peak hiking times but it’s only because it’s a popular hike for this area. The trek starts in Los Trapenses where you will see many cacti and beautiful vegetation (depending on the rain of course…). This trek finishes with a bang to the top of the hill that is talked about as “the cross of may”.
Peñón Hill
This is a medium to difficult style hike that will take around 3.5 hours to hike up and back down. It’s located at the end of El Golf of Manquehue where you can park your car (the same idea as Manquehito hill) and start your trek. One of the less visited peaks is called “Cordón del Manquehue” where you can start by the same access you will find to Manquehue but the last part of the trek will continue to the north to finish where less people make their way too.
Manquehue Hill
Manquehue hill is a medium to difficult hike that begins at the end of camino El Golf of Manquehue. You can park your car here without a problem and begin your hike here. There are some steep climbs that will challenge you but you can do it! There is a forest that you will pass through as you hike to the top of the hill. Bring your water and hiking shoes because this hike will take you around 3.5 hours to hike to the top and come back down. Enjoy!
Congalí Hill
Congalí hill will take around four hours to complete and is rated at a medium to difficult hike. It has some steep climbs and winds through a forest. For parking you can go to Av. la Dehesa (look for the part of the club escuestre internacional) and park outside of it where you will find the trailhead. Pass the Virgen del Molino y and continue onward toward the other protected trail of the son and it’s very easy to hike here at this point. Once you find the trailhead it should be fairly easy to know where to go.
Yerba Loca
Yerba Loca has an altitude of 2.400 meters and is an intermediate hike. It will take around 3.5 hours to hike up and back and is located at the Curva 15, Ruta G60 21, Santiago.. From the parking area of the you have to continue on the road you traveled in on for about 50 meters until you see a very large curve in the road where you will find a large path this has been abandoned and take this road straight ahead. On the curve you will see a trailhead that you can take until the German Refuge that is clearly marked. If you lose where you’re going there is a map on the trail to help guide you.
Farellones
Farellones is located at 2,652 meters in elevation and is an intermediate hike. It starts in the little town of Farellones and climbs gradually until the Los Manantiales section. The trek is around 10 kilometers with a 400 meter climb. There is some vegetation but not much shade for a sunny day. If you’re looking for good views of the valley this is the hike for you!
Alvarado Hill
This is an easy hike that families take around two hours to hike up and back. It’s located at Isla hill and is located both in Lo Barnachea and Vitacura. When you hike higher to the top you will be able to see both cities and the entrance to the hike is located on the intersection of Camino de la Aguada and Camino Punta Carreta. At the end of the plaza is located the entrance of the wooden door with a place to park your car without difficulty. The trek starts from where you park your car. Enjoy!
I promise to update this as I do more hikes around different places in Chile. Las Condes has many places to explore as well! Google it and you’ll find tons of places to explore but most importantly, have fun!
